Wiki Futures At Oxford

This page serves as a discussion document for the future use of wikis at the University of Oxford. I believe that the various uses of wikis (as organisational, planning and publishing tools) should be clarified and an infrastructure be set in place for using wikis throughout the university.

Wikis are currently used in OUCS (at http://ask.oucs.ox.ac.uk/ask/index.php/Main_Page) and are being implemented within the Mathematical and Physical Sciences Division (MPSDivisionWiki). They are also being used quite extensively within OUCS, but it might be worth while unifying this use (platform? identity? domain names?).

I suggested to Sophie Clarke (and she was enthusiastic about it) the idea of offering, in addition to user webspace at http://users.ox.ac.uk, a wiki installation or page to each university member. I think there might be a case for the domain name wiki.ox.ac.uk, although that requires a cost centre, which requires....

Essentially, I think that anyone who wants to create a wikipage about themselves/their project/their interest on ox.ac.uk should be able to do so. I think OUCS should facilitate that, as well as the more specific possibilities mentioned by Howard Noble of implementing publishing workflows.

How can wikis be used??!!?!
